Support Free Legal Services for Veterans

The Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic gives students the opportunity to partner with expert attorneys to focus on helping veterans appeal denied disability claims, increase disability ratings where justified by a veteran’s service record and health (including injury) status, and upgrade other-than-honorable discharges from the military. The students assist in filing applications to the Discharge Review Boards or the Boards for the Correction of Military Records and provide triage work on minor military administrative matters.

Students participate in a pre-clinic boot camp designed to expose them to nuanced military culture and to dispel myths and misconceptions about veterans returning from active duty — all in an effort to help students form deeper bonds with their veteran clients.

Beyond leveraging University resources to support clinic veterans in need, the Clinic participates in the Starbucks’ Military Mondays program. This partnership, the first of its kind in New York, provides the Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic with space and free coffee in a local Starbucks near Hofstra’s campus each month for meetings between legal counsel, law students and veterans seeking military benefits.

Help assist Hofstra Law students with the resources necessary to continue to serve veterans in need of free legal services. Support the work today!

The Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy is a center for action and thought within the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. The mission of the Gitenstein Institute is to unite students, faculty, attorneys, caregivers, clinicians, policymakers and community partners to transform the U.S. health care system. In meeting the goals of our mission, we employ a multidisciplinary approach aimed at teaching, scholarship, community outreach, advocacy, and developing policy initiatives.
